AHAM was formed in 1998 when a group of Hispanic, working women noticed the need to form an organization that would promote cultural awareness throughout the community. At the same time they were interested in preserving traditions, language and ties to their motherland.  These brave women paved the way to what now is known as the Asociación Hispano-Americana de Mujeres.

The group of the enthusiastic women that founded the association were: Susana M Warner, Sylvia Murillo, Verónica Wiesner, Irma Wilson and Nancy Bocanegra.
